Life is Good
Magrino tells the story behind the original positive lifestyle brand, spotlighting innovation in design, the transformative power of optimism, and The Playmaker Project’s philanthropic impact.

The Brand
Spreading the Power of Optimism Since 1994
Founded by brothers John and Bert Jacobs, Life is Good has been a source of inspiration with uplifting and clever graphics for over 30 years. The brand was inspired by their mother, Joan Jacobs, who overcame severe depression by practicing healthy coping mechanisms and embracing the mindset that positive energy is powerful energy.
While raising six kids in a small home on a tight budget, Joan brought joy into their lives through art, music, and creative storytelling. She became wild characters, like the dragon who breathes love instead of fire — now the brand’s iconic logo. Through imagination and play, Joan showed Bert and John that optimism is a powerful tool.

Key Initiatives
Innovation, Optimism, and Impact
Life is Good advances accessibility in design, fosters resilience through optimism, and empowers the next generation through The Playmaker Project.
Innovation in Design
First-Ever Braille Tee
Life is Good launched its first-ever Braille tee in collaboration with blind creator, Paralympic judo athlete, and motivational speaker Anthony Ferraro. The brand expanded its embroidery technology to create a tee the blind community could feel, opening its factory doors to Anthony to refine details and ensure the tee would resonate with blind and low-vision wearers. This small shift with big implications reimagines a classic Life is Good tee through an accessibility-first lens.
Philosophy
Positive Energy is Powerful Energy
At Life is Good, optimism is a practical strategy that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and adaptability. John and Bert Jacobs champion ten key “superpowers” accessible to anyone: openness, courage, simplicity, humor, gratitude, fun, compassion, creativity, authenticity, and love. These pillars teach resilience in the face of stress and adversity, leading to an overall better quality of life.
Philanthropy
The Life is Good Playmaker Project
Life is Good donates more than 10% of annual net profits to The Playmaker Project, helping over one million kids each year. The initiative has trained more than 30,000 early childhood professionals with a trauma-informed, play-based approach. Inspired by Joan Jacobs, The Playmaker Project empowers children to face challenges with resilience and a positive mindset, raising the next generation of optimists.
