DEB WATERMAN JOHNS
Cofounder & Chief Creative Officer
Deb Waterman Johns cofounded SCOUT in 2004 with her entrepreneur husband, Ben Johns. A former
Vogue editor and celebrity stylist, Deb has operated as the Chief Creative Officer since its inception, serving as the artistic and innovative force behind the brand, designing each product from start to finish. Decades in the making, the “aha moment” happened when Deb – a seasoned fashion trend-spotter and renowned fabric, pattern, and color thought leader – spotted a unique fabric at a high-fashion store in Milan. Deb loved that the fabric was functional and light enough to create a stylish bag that carried everything she needed without weighing her down. SCOUT, the company, was born.

Deb developed a unique eye for trends after starting her career as the Assistant Fabric Editor at the fashion mecca – Vogue. She parlayed this invaluable experience into a role at Pat Tunsky, serving top fashion designers and retailers (from Kmart to Calvin Klein) as a fabric and color-predictive consultant, and eventually set up her own consultancy followed by her own personal-styling company for prominent figures in the D.C. area. Deb is a force to be reckoned with, having spent 40+ years in fashion and business, and she brings her magnetic energy, lively personality, and keen eye for trends with her everywhere she goes. She is a true storyteller with a knack for capturing any audience with invaluable advice and lively anecdotes from her world travels and experience working her way up the fashion/business totem pole.
